AFTER successfully retaining his World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight crown in enemy territory, Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes will be arriving with his team in Cebu City today.
Nietes will be landing at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, along with close friend and fellow ALA fighter AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and trainer Edmund Villamor at 4:30 p.m.
Welcome
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer will meet the triumphant Filipino champion and his team in their arrival.
Nietes won against hometown fighter Erick Ramirez via a one-sided unanimous decision. The judges scored 113-111, 116-108 and 115-109, all for the 26-year-old ALA warrior.
Nietes won impressively and knocked down the Mexican challenger four times in the 12-round title battle at the Auditorio Guelaguetza in Oaxaca, Mexico last Sunday.
Overwhelming
Nietes knocked down the 26-year-old Ramirez in the first, fifth, ninth and 12th rounds.
Nietes? clash with Ramirez was his second title defense since obtaining the title in 2007 from Pornsawan Kratingdaeng-gym via a unanimous decision victory. He successfully defended his title here at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City against Nicaraguan contender Eddy Castro by a second-round knockout last Aug. 30.
In honor of Nietes? triumph, he will be presented to the media by ALA Promotions in a press conference tonight at the Sugbahan Restaurant.
