Pe?alosa promises great match in first Cebu fight in 5 years

WORLD Boxing Organization bantamweight king Gerry ?Fearless? Pe?alosa is thrilled to be fighting in Cebu City again and promised an exciting boxing show for the Cebuano fans.

Pe?alosa (53-6, 36 KOs), the World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion, started his career in Cebu but has not fought here in years.

He will end his hiatus on Feb. 21 against Mexico?s German ?Panteonero? Meraz (20-11 8KOs) at the Cebu Coliseum.

?I really love fighting in Cebu because of the boxing fans who support you all the way. I?m really excited to be back,? Pe?alosa told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.

Pe?alosa, whose last fight in Cebu was in 2004 when he stopped Thai Samingkao Chutipol in the second round, assured that he?ll be giving his all in this fight to entertain the Cebuanos.

?I?ll do my best and give the Cebuano boxing fans a good fight,? said the veteran two-division world champion.

Pe?alosa will be arriving in Cebu today along with fellow world titleholder Nonito Donaire Jr. from their training camp in Baguio City.

Pe?alosa and Donaire will continue to practice at the Rex Wakee Salud Gym.

Advantage

This Saturday, the 36-year-old warrior will try to take away the reach advantage of the younger Mexican.

?I?ll be moving inside and take away his reach advantage because he is taller than me,? said Pe?alosa.

Pe?alosa is 5-foot-4 while Meraz is two inches taller.

After his tune-up fight with Meraz, Pe?alosa will be facing undefeated WBO super bantamweight king Juan Manuel Lopez on April 24 in Puerto Rico.

In the undercards, undefeated bantamweight Rolando Magbanua will face Angel Cota for the interim WBO Oriental bantamweight crown; WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight titleholder Jason Egera will defend his title against Jundy Maraon; and hard-hitter Glenn Porras will square off with Thai Daothon Sithsoey.
