It won’t be father against son

RICKY HATTON will need to find a new trainer if he secures a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

Hatton is widely expected to collide with the Pretty Boy once again if he claims Manny Pacquiao’s pound-for-pound crown in May.

But the Hitman knows Floyd Mayweather Snr will not prepare him to face his son now that they are back on speaking terms.

Hatton, 30, said: “He is back talking to Floyd Jnr now and, obviously, if a rematch comes off he can’t train me for that one.

“I told him that he didn’t even have to explain himself. I said that it is totally understandable.

“You can’t expect him to go in the corner against his own son.”

Mayweather Jnr has not boxed since knocking out Hatton in Las Vegas in December 2007.

But Hatton is desperate to see the American return to action.

He added: “It would be a shame if he stayed retired. I would rather him knock me out again!

“I’m not looking past Pacquiao.

“But as far as dreams in terms of what I want to do before finishing my career, I’ve got this nagging feeling in my head that I want to put the record straight.”
