AFTER hearing of the comeback of ALA boy Czar Amonsot, Australian brawler Michael ?The Great? Katsidis isn?t too keen on having a rematch with the Boholano fighter.
Katsidis, who fought Amonsot in a brutal 12-round battle in 2007, believes that his former foe might be risking his life in his ring return.
?I was lying in a hospital bed next to him in Las Vegas when they said he will probably never be able to box again and that he had got a brain (clot),? Katsidis said in a report posted at SportsNut.com.au. ?I don?t know, a brain (clot) is not good, it?s a serious health risk, it can be bad for the sport.?
After the Katisidis fight, Amonsot briefly retired from the ring but has since been cleared to fight.
Heart
Katsidis will wait for the outcome of Amonsot?s comeback fight against top Indonesian pugilist Zoel Fidal on Jan. 31 in Bohol before deciding on a rematch. Also on the same day, the Australian will face Argentina?s Angel Ramirez at the Cebu Coliseum.
?I know this guy (Amonsot) has a lot of heart and sometimes it could be too much for his own good. We have to see what happens in the next fight,? said Katsidis of Amonsot, who recently told Sun.Star Cebu he wishes to fight his Australian tormentor in a rematch.
?I just wish him well, I hope that everything is well and he has a safe journey,? said Katsidis.
Katsidis lost his last two fights last year against former world champions Joel Casamayor, via a 10th round technical knockout last March 22 , and Juan Diaz, via split decision last Sept. 6 in Texas.
However, this year Katsidis is looking to bounce back from his losses.
?I?ve had a really good learning curve for 2008 and this is a big year for me because I?m 28 and this is when I?m going to be at my strongest,? said Katsidis. ?I?ve still got my agility and my speed. I?m a dangerous fighter and I?m going to prove that in the ring.?
Katsidis wants to have a rematch against Diaz and Casamayor and would love to have a dream match against the world?s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao.
