Even if he comes out of retirement soon, Floyd Mayweather Jr. should tow the line before he gets a crack at Manny Pacquiao.
Matchmaker Wakee Salud of Cebu has the reasons why.
?With Mayweather?s style, we may be in for a boring fight,? said Salud yesterday, saying that Ricky Hatton is the more exciting fight.
Pacquiao and Hatton are very close to striking a deal for a mega-buck showdown on May 2 somewhere in Las Vegas.
But Mayweather, the undefeated former pound-for-pound king who retired last June, is lurking on the sidelines.
An official announcement that he?s coming out of retirement may disrupt the Pacquiao-Hatton negotiations.
?Mayweather is in a poker match. And if the price is right then he might come out of retirement very soon,? added Salud.
?But for me, Hatton is the more exciting fight for Pacquiao than Mayweather. Let?s go for Hatton first,? he said.
Hatton is under Golden Boy while Pacquiao is with Top Rank.
Hatton, the 140-pound champion from Manchester, is a boxer who fights rough and comes straight at you.
He?s just a perfect match for Pacquiao.
In contrast, Mayweather fights an intelligent, and sometimes boring, fight. The one he had against Oscar dela Hoya last year, the one he won by decision, was a very good example.
?You can?t even see his head when he fights. He keeps them low, shielded by his shoulders. Masyado magulang (He?s too cunning),? Salud observed.
?He doesn?t want to get hit. And he faces you with his shoulders. And he loves to clinch. Manny will have a hard time in a fight like this,? he added.
Even Edwin Valero, the knockout artist from Venezuela, said Pacquiao will be better off fighting Hatton because he can knock the British superstar out.
?Hatton has no defense. He?ll come straight up. He has no chance against Manny. I don?t know how many rounds it will go but I can see Manny taking him out easily,? he said.
As to Mayweather, who dealt Hatton his first career loss in December last year, Valero said it?s simply the tougher fight for Pacquiao.
?Mayweather is very dangerous. His defense is excellent. He uses his shoulders to deflect the punches. He won?t throw too many punches because he waits for you to make a mistake.
?Like what he did to Hatton. Once Hatton gave him an opening, Mayweather knocked him out (10th round),? said Valero.
