File this under the rich promoter getting richer?Boxingconfidential revealed exclusively last week that Bob Arum?s Top Rank has become a co-promoter for unbeaten lightweight contender and Dominican Dandy Joan Guzman.
Now Coach Kenny Adams, who is in the corner of also unbeaten lightweight Edwin Valero, tells BC exclusively that he sees his explosive charge sigining shortly with the Las Vegas based promotional firm.
Adams has a long and cordial history of working closely with Top Rank.
If TR adds Valero after bringing Guzman on board, Uncle Bob will have brought in not one but two potential opponents for his company?s superstar, Manny Pacquaio.
Wait, it gets better. Adams tells us there is a wealthy Filipino businessman who is now managing the Venezuelan KO artist which would provide another angle for a Valero-Pacman fight at 140 pounds.
Leave it to former Army drill instructor (?I made Lou Gossett in ?Officer And A Gentleman? look like a pansy?) Adams to toss the first match on a fiery cauldron for Valero-Pacquiao.
?They all criticized Edwin,? Adams said from Las Vegas. ?They said he was off balance, they said he had no defense and they were pretty much right. But since he has been training with me, his feet are planted right and he?s got defensive moves.
The Valero you would see now in the ring?well, he knocks Pacquiao in about three rounds!?
Valero has been granted a boxing license in Texas but, last time I checked, had not submitted required medical records in an effort to get licensed in Nevada.
More on Coach Kenny A and his outstanding potential champion Deandre Latimore and his complete erenovation case, ambling heavyweight Tye Fields to come.
Fields is trying to regroup after getting wrecked by Monte “Three Card” Barrett while St. Louis fighter Latimore has a key fight in the works against homeboy rival Cory Spinks.
Keep it locked on Boxingconfidential as 2008 morphs into feeling fine in 2009!
