Pacquiao easily within weight limit

LAS VEGAS ? Manny Pacquiao tipped the scales at 146 pounds on the eve of the official weigh-in and made his trainer Freddie Roach very, very happy.

?We?re good. We?re happy,? said Roach, hoping that Pacquiao, who still had the luxury of a good meal before hitting the sack, would stay that way until Friday.

Roach said Pacquiao will have a very light breakfast, probably consisting of boiled eggs and fruits, before taking a nice little walk around the hotel.

The weigh-in is set at 2 p.m. at MGM (6 a.m. in Manila on Saturday) at the MGM Grand. Fight fans are expected to be there warming up for the big fight.

Roach said Pacquiao is right where he wants him to be.

?There?s nothing to worry about in my mind. I?m satisfied,? said Roach.

Pacquiao, who fought and won the WBC title at 135 pounds only last June, is climbing two divisions higher just to face Dela Hoya for a guaranteed purse of $11 million.

Weight was never an issue during his training, but how they could keep his speed and power against Dela Hoya, four inches taller but five years older.

For the first time in his career, Pacquiao didn?t have to diet. Thursday evening, he was with a lot of friends inside his suite watching HBO?s 24/7.

In the past, Pacquiao goes a little cranky close to the weigh-in because of his difficulty making weight.

?There?s nothing more we can do now. We?re here. It?s now up to Manny to do the job,? said Roach. ?Maybe he?ll weigh in 146-147 and climb the ring at 150 max.?

And Dela Hoya?

He?s dropping down in weight, having fought as heavy as 160 pounds, but his camp claims that he?s gone lower than the limit even before he got to Vegas last Monday.

Under the fight contract, Dela Hoya will be fined $3 million for every pound in excess of 147 pound. But that shouldn?t be a problem because he feels so good he said he can even make 140.
