HBO 24/7 certainly knows how to produce a television show. Actually, nobody does it better in my opinion. The show gives the fans a really good look at both camps. From Freddie Roach’s apartment that sets besides The Wild Card Gym in Hollywood to Big Bear, where the De La Hoya camp has settled in.
You get two very good perspectives from both sides, and it really helps to juice up the fight. And then there is…… Floyd Mayweather Jr. Very quietly on the sidelines, Floyd Mayweather Jr lurks. The pound for pound great says that he is retired, however there have been recent reports that say Mayweather is back in his gym in Las Vegas working hard.
Who is the REAL pound for pound king in boxing? Well, IF Mayweather is truly retired, then most agree that Manny Pacquiao holds that title. So, what if Floyd decides to come out of retirement? Then who is the pound for pound king? Well I for one think the boxing fans will find out.
If you listen real closely you may be able to hear the tanks and the warplanes and the ships being prepared for a pending war in the not so far future. A man standing on the beaches of The Philippines may have his ear pointed towards America, and while doing so, he may be hearing the Mayweather army cranking up it’s engines. An American man may be standing on the beaches of Long Beach, and he too listens. He may be hearing the pride of The Philippines, and it’s millions of faithful gearing up their engines. Gearing up for what I believe will be a showdown, a war, a true decider of just who is the pound for pound king.
A Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao fight is a very real possibility. Both Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao have both said that the fight is a real possibility. Neither guy has rebutted the idea, and Pacquiao himself when asked about it said, ?It’s a possibility that Floyd will come out of retirement and want to fight me.?
Mayweather Jr is a money making machine. Floyd knows that a fight between himself and Manny Pacquiao would generate revenue never seen before in boxing. Floyd also takes pride in his pound for pound king title. Floyd also knows that a victory over an in his prime Manny Pacquiao would solidify him as the undisputed pound for pound king.
Not many boxing writers give Pacquiao a chance to win his fight against De La Hoya. I for one think that he does have a chance to win, but he will need to fight a perfect fight. If I had to bet my house on the fight, I would have to bet on De La Hoya. With that said, I don’t think that it’s entirely crazy to think Pacquiao can win. If he does pull off the upset, I believe that not too long afterwards our friend Floyd Mayweather Jr will start making some noise.
So, where does that leave Ricky Hatton? What makes more sense as far as dollars are concerned? A Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao fight, or a Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr fight to determine the pound for pound king title? Both fights are great ones, but I believe more interest would be a fight to determine the pound for pound king once and for all.
