ALA Gym warrior Michael Domingo will be in for a difficult task as he will be facing tough bantamweight fighter Nestor Rocha in his return bout in the United States on Nov. 21 at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.
But even if Domingo is facing a world-rated opponent, ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer believes that he has a great chance in beating the 26-year-old Mexican-American if he follows the strategy that they have formulated because Rocha is tailor-made for Domingo?s style.
?If Domingo follows the game plan then he has huge chance in beating Rocha,? Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday. ?Domingo fits Rocha?s style because Rocha is a boxer and a technical fighter,? he added.
Aldeguer believes that this is Domingo?s opportunity to break into the limelight of the American boxing scene.
?This is Domingo?s chance for the next level,? said Domingo?s handler.
Upset
Meanwhile, famed ALA Gym coach Edito ?Ala? Villamor feels that Domingo has a good chance in upsetting Rocha even if the latter has the height and reach advantage.
?Rocha is tall and skillful but does not seem to have much power. I just hope that he will elect to fight and not run and dance all night,? said Villamor.
Domingo only stands at five-foot-three inches while Rocha, who was supposed to challenge for the World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown of Gerry ?Fearless? Pe?alosa, is five-foot-seven.
In Domingo?s debut fight in the US, he upset erstwhile undefeated Miguel Roman via a sixth round unanimous decision last year at the Arco Arena in Califonia.
Rocha possesses an impressive professional boxing record of 20 wins and a loss, with 7 knockouts, and is ranked ninth in the WBO and 16th in the World Boxing Council while Domingo owns a mediocre 37-14-2 win-loss-draw slate with 16 knockouts and sits at 14th in the WBO, 30th in the WBC and 15th in the International Boxing Federation.
Prospects
Aldeguer said that other names that came up as prospected opponents for Domingo were former world champions Jhonny Gonzales and Daniel Pnce De Leon.
The 29-year old WBO Oriental bantamweight titleholder, who is currently training at Roger Mayweather?s Gym with Villamor and fellow ALA boy Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista, earned a ticket to campaign in the US after an impressive ninth round technical knockout victory over ex-champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin.
On the other hand, Aldeguer believes that Domingo is in the right age and is ready to fight for a championship match.
