According to Ivan Rivera, president of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, the co-promoter to WBO super bantamweight champ Juan Manuel Lopez, Filipino fighter Bernabe Concepcion is being considered as the opponent for Lopez’s appearance on the December 6 undercard to Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao.
Rivera says that Lopez would like to fight Gerry Penalosa, the WBO bantamweight champ, but Penalosa is asking for a hefty $250,000 dollars for the bout and they doubt an agreement can be reached. As reported a few days ago, Argentine fighter Sergio Medina is also in the running to fight Lopez – and some have called him the current frontrunner.
“Provided that we reach an economic agreement, Lopez would defend the title against Filipino Gerry Penalosa, the WBO champion [at bantamweight]. We do have alternatives, Bernabe Conception of the Philippines and Sergio Medina of Argentina,” Rivera told El Nuevo Dia.
