MALUNGON, Sarangani: A giant US television network has arrived in town to manuscript the charitable contributions of World Boxing Council lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao to the people living in isolated villages.
Mayor Reynaldo Constantino of Malungon, Pacquiao?s official spokesman said Saturday the Home Box Office (HBO) team arrived in his municipality to film a documentary on the weekly ?Lingap sa Barangay? program and to gather information specifically from native Kaulos, B?laans and Kalagans of their impression of the boxing icon, Pacquiao, and what he has done to help the plight of the indigenous communities.
The TV crew first went to General Santos City, to Pacquiao?s hometown, Barangay Lagao where they started filming the life of the Filipino ring idol.
?They [HBO team] also visited Talus Village in Barangay Banate to observe our weekly medical out?reach program being carried out in far flung communities. This undertaking is one of the primary concerns of Pacquiao aside from boxing,? said Constantino, as he confirmed Pacquiao had long been giving donations (in cash or kind) for the benefit of the tribal people in Malungon.
Muncipal first Councilor Erwin Asgapo, a Kaulo, said the arrival of Pacquiao in Malungon have contributed much in changing the lives of his constituents.
?With Manny Pacquiao, we found a shoulder to lean on, somebody who is always there to help us,? Asgapo told The Manila Times.
Constantino said HBO film producer scott Bogins and his team has been roaming the locality to assemble an episode for the Pacman?s television special that will be shown on HBO 24/7 as part of the up-coming December 6 Pacquiao-Dela Hoya boxing encounter.
