While Oscar De La Hoya appears to be not looking past Manny Pacquiao, the brains behind the rise of Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is already training his sights on De La Hoya taking on British hero Ricky Hatton at the famed Wembley Stadium in London.
GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer told Setanta Sports, an Ireland-based sports broadcast network that there are concrete plans for De La Hoya versus Hatton in 2009 assuming of course De La Hoya survives Pacquiao on Dec. 6 and Hatton gets past Paul Malignaggi on Nov. 22.
“I think he (De La Hoya) will knock him (Pacquiao) out in a rather brutal fashion,” Schaefer told the network.
Schaefer is confident that his 35-year-old boss won?t have problems disposing of Pacquiao although he?s wary about Hatton?s bid to repulse Malignaggi, a New York-bred puncher of Italian descent.
“(The Malignaggi fight) will be no easy fight (for Hatton),” said Schaefer, adding that De La Hoya will make an assessment after the Pacquiao fight and should everything falls into place, would fight two more times before hanging up his gloves.
The De La Hoya-Pacquiao 12-round welterweight match dubbed “The Dream Match”, will be staged in front of a sellout crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and before a large number of viewers on pay-per-view.
Interestingly, Pacquiao is also eyeing a megabuck match with Hatton assuming of course he polishes off De La Hoya.
