Another Philippines versus Mexico duel is taking place during fight week of the Dec. 6 duel between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.
But it?s not happening on top of a boxing ring, according to Top Rank big boss Bob Arum.
“There was an argument while we were in Houston over which country has the most beautiful women and De La Hoya?s people said it was the women of Mexico especially after I told them that it was the Filipino women,” said Arum from San Francisco yesterday.
As it turned out, Top Rank and the De La Hoya-owned Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) have agreed to hold a beauty contest in the final days leading to the big event in December with four gorgeous women each from the Philippines and Mexico slugging it out for the top prize.
“We will go on a search around the world for the most beautiful women of the Philippines while Golden Boy Promotions will get Mexican-Americans,” said Arum.
“We haven?t finalized the mechanics though,” said Arum, the seventy-something Harvard-educated lawyer from New York.
“The fight is so huge that you can?t help but stage these type of shows,” said Arum, the contest will get tremendous media mileage as well owing to its unique nature.
