Only 500 Hoya-Pacquiao tickets go on sale today

Only a fraction of the tickets for the much-awaited Oscar De La Hoya-Manny Pacquiao Dec. 6 slugfest will go on sale today and it is expected that everything is going to sell out in less than three hours.

Ticket sales are limited to two (pieces) per person at each price level with a total ticket limit of four per person, according to ace publicist Fred Sternburg, who handles the publicity for Pacquiao.

Priced at $ 1,500, $ 1,000, $ 750, $ 500, $ 250 and $ 150, the lion?s share of the tickets have already been allotted to Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) and the MGM Mirage group which operates the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which will host the fight.

The Grand Garden Arena has been reconfigured to accommodate over 15,000 fans but only 500 or so have been left to be devoured by fight fans, some of them might end up selling those choice tickets in the black market for an obscene amount.

Top Rank chief Bob Arum said he won?t be surprised if internet ticket sellers dangle premium ringside seats for as much as $ 30,000 each.

When De La Hoya fought Floyd Mayweather last year in what turned out to be a disappointment in terms of explosiveness, a ringside seat sold for textbig,000 at face value but was being pegged at $ 30,000 in an Internet auction.

GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer said the De La Hoya-Pacquiao welterweight bout is going to be like “the Super Bowl of boxing.”
