Pacquiao-Hoya ticket prices to reach new height

Premium ringside seats to the Dec. 6 showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will cost an arm and a leg.

While Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) has yet to officially release the price range, it is widely believed that the top seats will cost at least $ 1,000 or higher.

De La Hoya and Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer are hosting a teleconference call late Thursday morning (early Friday in the Philippines) to officially announce the fight and provide other pertinent details for the year?s biggest bout.

When De La Hoya battled Floyd Mayweather in May last year ? in a record-breaking showdown also staged at the 17,157-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena ?tickets were priced at $ 2,000, $ 1,500, $ 1,000, $ 750, $ 350 and $ 150.

Still, the priciest so far was when Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson in June 2002 at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tennessee, where tickets at ringside were sold as high as $ 2,400.

With ticket prices reaching new heights for a Pacquiao fight, it is doubtful whether the Filipino boxing star would give away tickets in astonishing numbers to his friends, friends of his friends and relatives of his friends.

Since 2005, Pacquiao has been purchasing a big number of tickets to treat his bigwig friends from the world of politics, entertainment and members of his inner circle as well.
