Like Oscar dela Hoya, Manny Pacquiao can?t wait to get things done and over with ? whether or not he gets to face the great champion in a dream match on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.
?In a few days, maybe in the next two days, we will know,? said Pacquiao from his hometown Gen. Santos City where he spent the afternoon practicing his golf swing at the Anchor driving range.
?As of now nothing is final. But in the next few days we have to make a decision,? said the 29-year-old superstar now addicted to golf. He was also at the range the other day and hit seven buckets (350 balls).
?This week, may final na,? he said.
Pacquiao said he?s been in constant touch with his promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, regarding the negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer regarding the proposed Dec. 6 fight.
The two camps have been at it since last month but negotiations bogged down more than two weeks ago when Dela Hoya stood firm in his 70-30 offer for Pacquiao who was demanding a 60-40 split.
And while reports said Dela Hoya had made fresh offers, like a 67-33 split, Arum, the ageless promoter from Las Vegas, said there?s nothing new.
?I really don?t know what they?re up to. The ball is in Oscar?s court. They know Manny won?t accept 70-30 and we?ve heard nothing back about a change in their demand. I don?t know where these stories are coming from,? Arum told Boxing Confidential.
If nothing comes out of the Dela Hoya negotiations, Arum and Pacquiao may be up to something else, and instead make an announcement about a fight against someone else.
Arum even hinted last week that there?s a very nice offer for Pacquiao to fight somewhere outside Las Vegas. Humberto Soto is on standby as Pacquiao?s next opponent on Nov. 1, in case the Dela Hoya fight fizzles out for good.
A Team Pacquiao insider yesterday said Arum may be referring to the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles as the possible venue of Pacquiao?s next fight that may include undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the card.
