Philippine flag-bearer Manny Pacquiao believes the country’s Olympians will do well in their quest for medals as he wished them the best of luck a day before he sets off to join them in Beijing.
?Sa tingin ko kaya ng mga Pinoy ‘yan,? said Pacquiao shortly after arriving in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2. He came from the United States where his camp negotiated for a fight against Oscar dela Hoya.
?Good luck sa kanilang lahat. ?Wag nilang kalimutang magdasal, mag-ensayo sila,? said the Filipino boxing superstar.
Pacquiao assured the public that he will give his full support Filipino athletes in their quest to win the country?s first Olympic gold medal.
?Nandito lang kami sa likod n’yo, nakasuporta at nagdarasal para sa karangalan ng ating bansa,? he said.
Pacquiao is scheduled to leave Thursday for China to join President Arroyo’s visit for the Olympics.
Pacquiao ?unhappy? over negotiations
Pacquiao, meanwhile, was reportedly unhappy over the results of his team’s negotiations for a fight against de la Hoya.
Pacquiao arrived via Philippine Airlines flight PR103 at past 5 a.m. Wednesday with his family, his lawyer Jeng Gacal and politician Luis “Chavit” Singson.
Gacal said they are now awaiting response from de la Hoya’s camp regarding their proposal.
?Sa ngayon, hinihintay namin ang magiging kasagutan ng Golden Boy Promotion sa aming proposal, malalaman kung tatanggapin o hindi,? he said.
Gacal did not divulge the details of their proposal, but stressed that they are doing their best to get the best deal for Pacquiao.
?Isang dapat i-consider dito it’s a tough fight for Manny Pacquiao. Hindi ito easy fight. That’s why we’re trying to get the best deal for Manny for this particular fight,? he said. With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
