Diaz, wife chill out in pool

LAS VEGAS ? The morning after sustaining the most painful experience on top of the ring, David Diaz took his wife Tanya to the world-renowned wave pool at Mandalay Bay to chill out and drown their sorrows over what happened the night before.

“David is in high spirits and is doing good,” said the boxer?s publicist Bernie Bahrmasel, barely 24 hours after watching Manny Pacquiao sliced and diced Diaz in nine brutal rounds.

Diaz?s face looked like a Halloween mask after referee Vic Drakulich finally stopped the carnage that was witnessed live by 8,263 fans and the hundreds of millions watching from around the world.

Bahrmasel said Diaz?s cut below his right eyebrow needed six stitches to close and the nick on the bridge of his nose will be left to heal by itself after he was brought to Valley Hospital after attending the post-fight press conference.

Jim Strickland, chief trainer of Diaz, said he will let Diaz take a breather for the next six weeks then ponder on what to do next.

Diaz himself is certain that he will return to the ring again even though Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach sounded off that he ought to gather his thoughts and might as well hang up his gloves for good following the disastrous ending of his title-retention try.

Diaz and his wife got out of their room early in the morning and frolicked in the man-made beach most of the time, the first time they privately enjoyed each other?s company in quite a while since he began training camp in Chicago on April 19.

The desert sun had already gone down and the Diaz?s were still outside having fun, Bahrmasel said.

Team Diaz, also made up of the fighter?s father Anselmo and training assistant Mike Garcia, are flying out of Sin City en route to the Windy City on Monday.
