A win could be vital in Gorres? plan for a shot at the International Boxing Federation super flyweight title which is currently held by Dimitri ?The Baby? Kirilov. The champion will be defending his title against Armenian slugger Vic Darchinyan on Aug. 2.
On the other hand, Otieno will give it all to derail Gorres? ambition and gain a ticket to big time boxing and make a name in the international boxing scene.
Gorres was supposed to face IBF Inter-Continental mandatory challenger Francis Miyeyusho but the Tanzanian was sent to the canvas by Otieno, the Universal Boxing Organizaion bantamweight titleholder, in the first round of their encounter last April 5.
In the undercard, former World Boxing Council flyweight titlist Malcolm ?Eagle Eye? Tu?acao (21-2-3, 14 KOs) will be in a fistic battle with Tanzania Professional Boxing king Rashid Ally (11-9-7, 2 KOs), who threatened to end the Cebuano?s career.
Tu?acao is reviving his impressive career with a 10 rounder bout against Ally. He is returning to the ring after almost a year?s rest.
Meanwhile, the Cebu City council granted the promoter?s a full exemption from the amusement tax in a resolution passed last May 21.
?We know that promoters like ALA need all the support they can get in financially draining and risky events like this,? said Cebu City Councilor and boxing enthusiast Jack Jakosalem in a text message to Sun.Star Cebu.
