PACQUIAO: PUPPET OR TRUE GLADIATOR?

IGNORANT FANS TAINT MANNY?S IMAGE

San Francisco, CA- The Filipinos are great people! They are predominantly Catholic, somewhat conservative, and family orientated folks. Why then are there so many whackos per capita? Let me explain. When I look at the truly great fighters of the past 25 years, you have a list comprising of Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Shane Mosley, and the list goes on.

REAL CHAMPS MEET REAL CHALLENGES!

Of the aforementioned group, they never ran from anybody! Hell, Leonard fought Duran and Hearns when they were in their prime. Hagler beat on every middleweight he faced, revenging early career losses, in addition to cleaning out his division with zeal. Ali fought everybody that was anybody, and bears the neurological scars to prove it.

SHANE HAS BASKETBALLS IN HIS SHORTS

Shane Mosley, he took on Vernon Forrest, a man that beat him in the amateurs. After losing in the 1992 Olympic process, Shane fought Vernon as a professional and was handily defeated. Demanding a rematch he didn?t have to take, Shane lost again to Forrest. The same applies to his fighting a much bigger Winky Wright. Why did he do it? Because Shane has a sack that an elephant would envy!

EVEN AFTER KO LOSS TO MCCALL

Lennox Lewis didn?t duck any worthy challengers. After being drilled by Oliver McCall, Lennox went looking for Oliver and a second fight. His mowing down Mike Tyson in a fight everybody wanted to see, this put a capper on the career of the 1988 Olympic champion. What do these fighters all have in common? Pride, self-confidence, the desire to take on the most difficult opponents, this in addition to having the heart of a champion. Friends and foes, these are the ingredients that comprise a truly great fighter.

PAC DOESN?T MAKE DECISIONS HIMSELF

Which brings us to Manny Pacquiao. While I erroneously thought he could beat Juan Manuel Marquez, a vast majority of people that saw the rematch this past Saturday felt Marquez controlled Manny more than Manny hammered him. The media scores, in addition to World flyweight (112 lbs.) champ Nonito Doniare, 9 out of 10 felt Marquez had won.

MANNY NEEDS TO FIGHT JUAN AGAIN!

The unfinished business with Marquez is first. Juan deserves another dance with Pacquiao. Although he doesn?t have the KO power that Manny has, he is the better boxer of the two, again something I did not believe until last Saturday. Instead promoter Bob Arum has convinced Pacman that fighting David Diaz, a marginal fighter with the WBC lightweight (135 lbs.) title. is the way to go. The man that is the most formidable foe for Pacquiao, either at 130 or 135 lbs. is WBO champ (130) Joan Guzman.

PAC IS JOE FRAZIER, GUZMAN IS ALI!

With phenomenal hand speed, decent power, to go along with overall superior skills, even the blindest of Filipino fans, and I?m not talking about the ignorant bastards that know nothing but four letter words and racial epithets, the ones that cast a dark shadow on the great Filipino people, the knowledgeable fans know they know Joan Guzman is the real fight out there for Pacquiao. I?ve been told by a great Filipino journalist (who shall remain nameless as he?ll be the next victim of this out of control posse) that he is ashamed by what a number of his countrymen say about other fighters, writers, and the like.

DON?T BE FOOLED AS DIAZ IS A BUM!

David Diaz struggled against an opponent that Arum and astute matchmaker Bruce Trampler handpicked. Ranked 53rd by BoxRec.com at 135, Ramon Montano (15-5 with NO KOs) came ever so close to defeating Diaz (34-1, 17 KOs) on the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard. Hey Manny, fighting Diaz is almost akin to you fighting a girl!

COULD MANNY WEAR GUZMAN DOWN/OUT?

Guzman is the best boxer at 130 lbs. But with trainer Freddie Roach reading cue cards written by Arum, saying that Manny can?t make 130 anymore, and that he needs to move up to 135 and fight Diaz. Joan will fight Manny at any weight Arum and Roach would like. But he?s not going to get that fight, because unlike the fighters I mentioned in the first paragraph, Manny Pacquiao is moving up in weight (call it running) to avoid Guzman.

I WAS SCARED TO FIGHT ONE GUY TOO!

I know what it?s like to be scared of somebody, as I backed out of an amateur tournament to avoid fighting future World champ Zack Padilla (22-1, 14 KOs). At the time I lacked the experience to deal with the buzz saw that Zack was, as he was to be my first ?Open? division (top of the food chain) match. There is no shame in knowing your limitations, and that?s why Pacquiao wants no part of Guzman. At the weight, this would be Ali & Joe Frazier. Can you imagine Joe Frazier ducking Ali? Well, Pacman not calling out Guzman is the equivalent of Joe Frazier not wanting any part of Muhammad Ali.

DOES PAC HAVE A SENSE OF HISTORY?

Maybe if Manny Pacquiao could think for himself, instead of being Arum?s puppet on a string, he?d show the balls of say a Shane Mosley and demand to fight Guzman. But Manny lacks either the intellect or the guts. Which one is it?

THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU!

And before you Pacman fans go crazy and post four-letter words and the like, remember that in the age of the Internet, the entire world is watching, and you need not give your country and its beautiful people an unwarranted black eye! You can disagree by leaving comments below, as I?m not against that. But four-letter words and personal attacks will be deleted hourly if need be!
