Floyd Mayweather said the Manny Pacquiao rematch should be done within 48 hours on May 7. Almost a month later, Pacquiao’s side is still waiting on “Floyd Time.”
Mayweather made the comments during a Las Vegas press conference for his June 27 exhibition against Greek kickboxing veteran Mike Zambidis in Athens.
“At this particular time, I truly believe that, you know, everybody is gonna want to ask questions about the Pacquiao fight,” said Mayweather.
“We have a lot of new companies, a lot of new faces, and Netflix, I truly believe that we’ll get this done. I think we’re almost at the finish line to finish the Pacquiao fight. Eventually, I think within the next 48 hours, the Pacquiao fight should be done.”
Since then, the undefeated former five-weight world champion has continued training hard and posting regular footage alongside Lehkei Mayweather, the son of Roger Mayweather.
What he has not done is say anything new about Pacquiao.

Instead, weeks have passed without an official announcement, confirmed date, venue, or final structure for a fight that has already moved through several public versions.
Pacquiao’s side pushed the rematch early, with Netflix, Sphere in Las Vegas and a September target date forming the original public vision for the event.
Mayweather stayed quiet for weeks before finally acknowledging the rematch and the Netflix direction during the Zambidis rollout.
Floyd’s acknowledgement showed the rematch was genuinely moving, but it still did not produce a final announcement.
Floyd’s Time With Mayweather quiet since that press conference, WBN contacted Sean Gibbons for clarity on where things stand.
Gibbons, Pacquiao’s long-time right-hand man, could only say the announcement remains on “Floyd’s Time” while adding that he is still “hopeful” the rematch happens.
Mayweather has spent his entire career controlling timing, terms and risk. Even now, after Pacquiao’s side helped put the rematch back into public view, the final word still appears to sit with Floyd.
Pacquiao’s team announced the initial event with ambition while Mayweather waited. Soon after, the venue picture changed when Sphere fell away and the MGM Grand, the scene of the disappointing first fight, emerged as a more familiar possibility.
Then Floyd returned to the microphone and sounded like the only man whose clock counted.
Busy Mayweather Mayweather is not exactly short of business.
He is already booked to face Zambidis in Greece later this month, while according to Fight Sports, the postponed Mike Tyson exhibition has also been pushed toward the fall after Tyson suffered a broken hand.
If everything attached to Mayweather actually lands, he could have Zambidis in June, Tyson later in the year and Pacquiao still trying to secure a September Netflix date.
That is a lot to sort out for a fighter whose post-retirement exhibition career has been quiet since the John Gotti II fallout.

The Filipino icon touching down at LAX and starting camp at Wild Card gives fans some reason to believe the Netflix event may still find its final date and venue.
The latest Gibbons update keeps the fight alive without dressing it up as complete. But that still leaves Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 exactly where it has been for nearly a month.
Mayweather remains in control, and that’s how he has always preferred it, even after Pacquiao’s side announced the early vision.
And after Mayweather finally validated Pacquiao’s Netflix plan, the only thing missing is the official confirmation.
