Mario Barrios’ trainer Bob Santos has told Worldboxingnews.com he’s in the dark over a Manny Pacquiao championship defense.
Reports are rife that Barrios will defend the WBC welterweight title against the Filipino superstar on July 19 at the T-Mobile Arena.
Several stories suggest Barrios vs. Pacquiao is penciled in to co-feature on the Sebastian Fundora vs Tim Tszyu event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, Santos could not confirm anything when WBN contacted the respected coach about a successful conclusion to year-long talks.
“Everyone keeps saying that the Barrios vs. Pacquiao is done, but Luis Decubas and Al Haymon (Premier Boxing Champions) have not told me anything definitive,” Santos exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I specifically called Luis, and he told me he’s (Pacquiao) focused on his May 12 election and will update me after that happens.
“He’s not making any decision (until then). We’ve been trying to fight this guy for a year and a half.”
Pacquiao will find out the result of his bid to rejoin the Philippines Senate next week. MP Promotions Head Sean Gibbons is so far refusing to reveal any details of a potential deal until then. –
