Jonathan Davis: His Integrity Would’ve Lit Up Diogenes And His Famous Lamp!

I don?t know who stole Diogenes; lamp on the streets of ancient Athens.

If you will recall, this brazen theft prevented the ancient one from finishing his search for the truly honest man. I am not sure why Diogenes never got another lamp but it seems as though his nightly search for the honest man ended when his lamp was lifted by some lowlife.

You do not need a lamp to discover boxing?s honest man because even Ray Charles can see that he is none other than a Filipino banker named Jonathan Davis.

I?m nominating Davis as Pinoy boxing personality of the year no matter what Manny Pacquiao does March 15 or for the remainder of 2008.

Davis scored the Z Gorres-Vic Darchinyan title eliminator bout in Cebu City 114-112 in favor of the brash Australian. I know it takes leather balls to play rugby but Davis showed a big pair of cojones by scoring the fight so fairly despite a partisan crowd that was throwing various missles into the ring.

For all this Filipino judge knew, when the scores were being added up, he could?ve been what George Bush is not?The Decider. Davis? vote might have given Vic D the margin of victory.

As it was, it turned out to be a unsatisfactory draw. The deadlock left Darchi promoter Big Gary Shaw fuming but he directed most of his ire at referee Lance Revill.

By all accounts, the ref from New Zealand was an unmitigated disaster. The IBF should have let Aussie Bruce MacTavish, a more experienced and seasonsed arbiter, handle this touchy assignment. MacTavish has lived in the Philippines 30 years and raised a family there but I doubt he would?ve caused such a bungle as Revill did.

I know Big Gary is back in the USA but I hope, in the spirit of Diogenes, he did one proper thing beforte he jetted out of Manila.

I hope Shaw shook the hand of the truly honest man. I hope he gave props to Pinoy judge Jonathan Davis.

When it comes to impartiality, you can bank on him.
