Pacquiao, Marquez records almost same

NUMERICALLY, MANNY Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are evenly matched for their March 15 rematch in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao has fought 50 professional fights, winning 45, losing three and drawing twice. The Filipino soutpaw has 35 knockouts.

Marquez, on the other hard, has logged 52 matches, winning 48, losing three times and drawing once. Like Pacquiao, the counter-punching expert boasts of 35 triumphs inside the distance.

Physically, they?re of the same size and shape.

Pacquiao stands 5-6 1/2, while Marquez is 5-7. Both punchers have a wingspan of 67 inches.

The biggest disparity is the age and the number of total rounds as well as world championship rounds logged.

Pacquiao just turned 29 last December, while Marquez will become 35 in August, although the latter has hardly shown the ill effects of wear and tear in his last few fights.

Since truning professional in early-1995, Pacquiao has since racked up 259 total rounds, 45 of which were fought with the world title at stake.

However, Pacquiao may actually have more than 45 if his trilogy with Erik Morales, his two bouts with Marco Antonio Barrera and various wins over a handful of top-caliber punchers is to be counted considering that he is unofficially regarded as the world?s best in his division.

Marquez, on the other hand, has chalked up 369 total rounds, including 114 rounds with the world championship on the line. He has been fighting professionally since 1993 and formely held the World Boxing Association featherweight titlebelt.

Marquez is now the reigning World Boxing Council superfeather titlist and the Pacquiao fight will be the second defense of this crown.
