Australia’s hottest young boxing talent Billy Dib will be the key to victories by Hussein Hussein and Vic Darchinyan over their great Filipino rivals. World-rated featherweight Dib, under contract to Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy stable, will spar dozens of rounds with both fighters in the lead-up to their career defining fights against Nonito Donaire and Z Gorres. Hussein challenges Donaire in Dubai on March 27 for the IBF flyweight title he took from Darchinyan last July. Darchinyan faces Gorres in Cebu City on February 2 in an IBF super-flyweight eliminator for the right to face Russia’s world champ Dmitri Kirilov. “I’ve already started sparring Vic and I start with Hussy next week,” said Dib, who will fight a world top-five opponent on the Katsidis-Casamayor card on March 22. “Vic is looking great. Very strong, very fast but he faces a tough opponent in Z Gorres. I’ve seen Gorres fight and he is a real talent. But Vic is dynamite.” Dib, undefeated in 17 fights and a recent winner over IBF No.4 featherweight Rogers Mtagwa said he believed Hussein was a real chance of scoring a big upset over Donaire. “Fighters lift in world title fights and Hussy really wants this world title. He gave Pongsaklek Wongjongkam one of the toughest fights of his life in Bangkok and I really think Donaire is in danger of losing his title.”
