IT?S official, International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire is set for his second title defense against the Australian Hussein ?Hussy? Hussein in Dubai on April 4.
After his recent visit to Cebu for the Sinulog festivities, the Sto.Ni?o devotee Donaire immediately returned to Manila and had a dinner meeting last Monday with promoters Gary Shaw and Noli Eala who responsible for the promotion of his second title defense which was moved to a later date instead of March 27.
?The fight is on. We already talked about it in our dinner with promoters Gary Shaw and Noli Eala?, said Nonito Donaire Sr. father of the IBF/IBO champion in an interview by Sun.Star Cebu.
Donaire (19-1, 12 KO?s) has already started his training with mild exercises right now and is jogging to keep his shape. He will be back on February to train at the famed ALA Gym to prepare for his fight with Hussein (31-4, 24 KO?s) in Dubai. He trained at the ALA gym in his first title defense against Mexican Luis Maldonado, which he won via TKO in the eighth round.
Meanwhile, the older Donaire will be going to the United States on Feb. 1 to support his other son Glen in his upcoming fight on Feb 22 in Nevada with a yet to be named opponent in six rounds of boxing.
Another fighter seeing action in Dubai is World Boxing Organization minimum weight Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes (22-1-3, 13 KO?s) against 35 year old Columbian Daniel ?El Olimpico? Reyes (39-5-1, 30 KO?s).
Nietes originally had a scheduled fight on January but was moved to an undercard in the Donaire-Hussein title bout. He started his training last November and started sparring this month.
?This will be the toughest fight yet for Nietes because his opponent Reyes is a mandatory challenger and is a top fighter in their weight category but he is very well prepared for his challenger? said Michael Aldeguer of ALA Gym yesterday in an interview by Sun.Star Daily.
When asked about their age difference of 10 years Aldeguer answered ?Yes, age will be a factor. Reyes is older but much more experienced, he is a veteran fighter while the youthful Nietes is the world champion. So this will go either way. This is going to be a great fight?.
