Vic Darchinyan has assembled a who?s who of sparring partners – including two former world champs and two rising Filipinos – as he prepares to invade the Philippines and KO local star Z Gorres. Former IBF flyweight champ Darchinyan faces Gorres in Cebu City on February 2 for the right to tackle IBF super-flyweight king Dmitri Kirilov of Russia. Darchinyan, who will host a public workout at his Sydney gym tomorrow, is sparring with former IBF junior-welterweight champ Lovemore Ndou, former IBF junior-lightweight champ Gairy St Clair, world-rated featherweight Billy Dib and world flyweight contender Hussein Hussein as well as rising Filipinos Leon Maratas and Junmar Dulog. Southpaw Maratas is 8-0, with all eight fights in The Philippines. He is due to have his next fight at Sydney?s Croatian Club on March 14. Southpaw Junmar Dulog arrested a six-fight losing streak in Australia with a stunning upset over previously unbeaten Aussie prospect, Heath Ellis, the highly touted nephew of former world champ Lester Ellis. Darchinyan?s manager Elias Nasser said his fighter has left nothing to chance in preparing for Gorres. “Leon Maratas is a real find,?? he said, “he has given Vic some great work to go with the hard sparring he has done with some of the bigger name fighters. “We are all very thrilled with the way Vic has prepared for this fight. “His trainer Billy Hussein has done a great job and we are very confident Vic will beat Gorres and then go on to win the world super-flyweight title against Dmitri Kirilov.??
