Pacman looking good ? cornerman

MANNY PACQUIAO put on a show with the mitts inside a General Santos City gym owned by boxing patron Rey Golingan late yesterday afternoon with 67 days remaining before his March 15 rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico.

“Manny?s looking good,” reported Golingan from the site of Pacquiao?s workout that was manned by longtime cornermen Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.

Golingan said the 29-year-old Pacquiao, who fought under him using the monicker Kid Kulafu during his amateur days in Mindanao, will continue to hold afternoon training sessions until the end of the week.

“Manny said they?re leaving (for the States) on Jan. 14,” Golingan, a successful businessman and a staunch supporter of professional and amateur boxing until this day, bared.

“I am pleased that Manny?s already working out this early because he will be up against a tough assignment because Marquez will be in tip-top shape come fight night,” he added.

Pacquiao had actually kicked off his training for the much-awaited second meeting with the 34-year-old Marquez upon his arrival from a family vacation in Las Vegas last Jan. 5. Hours after arriving, Pacquiao showed up at the Wild Card Gym in Para?aque City and held light exercises.

Pacquiao is the slight favorite going into the scheduled 12-rounder that will take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Top Rank big boss Bob Arum, who is staging the slambang setto alongside Oscar De La Hoya?s Golden Boy Promotions, expects huge sales in the pay-per-view as the seasoned promoter anticipates a sellout at the 12,000-seat venue.
