Fresh from seeing stablemate Marlon Tapales pull off an epic win, Jade Bornea swore yesterday that he is all pumped to score a similar performance.
Bornea is penciled to face Fernando Martinez of Argentina for the International Boxing Federation super-bantamweight crown on 24 June in Minneapolis.
Tapales beat Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev on a split decision to become a two-belt world champion over the weekend in San Antonio, Texas.
“Marlon’s victory brought enormous joy to our team and it only made me very determined to become like him,” Bornea said from Las Vegas.
Martinez is best known for inflicting Jerwin Ancajas two defeats and ending his long reign as the IBF’s 115-lb king.
But Bornea and his team, the very same crew that steered Tapales to the top, is confident that Martinez will meet his match in June.
Unlike Tapales, who returns to Manila on Monday, Bornea will stay in Sin City to rev up for Martinez.
Ernel Fontanilla and Ting Ariosa, the winning duo behind Tapales’ stunning upset, will handle Bornea’s camp.
