Three-time world champ Jeff Fenech recently spoke to sportsnut.com.au about Filipino sensation Ranee Ganoy who has become a major fight star in Australia. Fenech says he can help him become world lightweight champion.
Q: You are now involved in helping Ranee Ganoy to a world title. How good is he?
A: Ranee is the best pure puncher I?ve seen in 25 years of boxing. The way he stopped Robbie Peden and Fatai Onikeke was awesome. He has the power to knock anyone out.
What makes him such a good fighter?
He has that natural power. You can?t teach someone that but I want to refine his skills to make him a sure thing to win a world title.
What is his potential?
It?s unlimited. Right now he has the knockout power in either hand. He can knock out anyone with that punch and I mean anyone – including Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
What happens if Pacquiao and Ganoy end up fighting at lightweight?
Pacquiao will get a huge shock. Ranee punches harder than anyone ? anyone ? Pacquiao has met. Obviously Manny would start favourite. He is a top-class fighter but Ranee has a huge chance to score an upset.
What is the next step?
I?m working with Ranee?s promoter Angelo di Carlo to push him up the world rankings. We?re looking at former world champ Yodsanan 3K Battery in March. Yodsanan has a great record ? just one loss in the last 14 years when he dropped his world title. But believe me Ranee has the power to stop him.
What about Nate Campbell, the IBF?s No.1 lightweight contender?
Campbell will probably go for a world title shot first because he?s the top contender. But we?d love to get that fight. Ranee would stop Campbell easier than Robbie Peded did.
Why are Filipinos such exciting fighters?
They always come to fight. They are hungry for success and have huge hearts. Manny Pacquiao is one of the most exciting fighters in the world for that reason.
