ASIDE from preparing physically for the fight, Nonito Donaire Sr. said Z Gorres should not forget his mental preparation when he goes up against Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan for the International Boxing Federation eliminator bout on Feb. 2 at the Waterfront Hotel.
?Gorres should step up in that ring confident,? said Donaire Sr. in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.
The elder Donaire is in a unique position as both his sons fought Darchinyan, while another has faced Gorres.
Nonito Jr. handed Darchinyan his first loss last year, and in the process avenged his brother, Glen?s, loss to Darchinyan. Glen has also lost to Gorres.
?He should dodge Darchinyan?s powerful punches and use more combinations to score more points, instead of going for a one-punch KO,? said the elder Donaire, who trained his son Nonito at the ALA gym for his first title defense.
?If Gorres will listen to my tips and follow this strategy he should have a big chance to walk away victorious,? said Donaire.
Meanwhile, Darchinyan isn?t letting his mouth rest and said he loves to fight southpaws because they always walk into his powerful left straight punch that sends them to the canvas all the time.
?I love fighting southpaws. All the top ones I have fought, I have knocked out,? Darchinyan told sportsnut.com.
Darchinyan knocked out southpaw Irene Pacheco and won the IBF flyweight belt and beat lefties Mzukisi Sikali and Diosdado Gabi and others who went southpaw against him like Luis Maldonado and Federico Catubay.
