4 boxers top divisions, vie for ‘Next Boxing Idol’

FOUR fighters emerged victorious in ABS-CBN?s reality show ?The Search for the Next Boxing Idol? in their weight divisions in the final round at Tony Aldeguer?s famed ALA gym in Cebu last Friday.

Jerson Mancio, Rolito Nengasca, Alejandro Belonquel and Alde Zosa triumphed over their opponents in the covered basketball court of ALA gym, which was jammed packed with a lively crowd.

Mancio from Agusan del Sur defeated Saddam Barambagan of General Santos City in the light flyweight division. In the super flyweight category, Nengasca was hailed the winner over the fighter from Mandaue City, Jerome Bontog. Belonquel was the champion for the super bantamweight when he won against Rufino Mante of Bohol and Zosa was declaired the winner in the super featherweight division against Pedro Salondro.

Only one of the four winners of the different weight divisions will be the ?Idol? champion, which will be decided by a participative text voting system by the fans.

The four champions were given a check worth P50,000 for becoming the top fighter of their category. There will be a different cash prize for the ultimate idol. In addition to the cash they received they will have a chance to be an ALA fighter and start a career and possibly fight in the United States.

Aldeguer was congratulated for a job well done with the reality show, which was described to be a hit among Filipino fans.

?We really made sure that they trained for these fights. So we all saw the result,? said Aldeguer in a report posted at philboxing.com

Aldeguer was in the event with his son Chris and wife Nia, ALA manager Michael Aldeguer and wife Christine, and businessman Jay Aldeguer. EKA
