Everyone assumes that the Boxingconfidential staff has a personal issue or vendetta with Golden Boy Promotions. Nothing could be further from the truth as we operate on our own agenda which is based on shooting straight from the hip. While it?s well known that website owner Michael ?White Gorilla? Marley is involved directly and indirectly with the development and financial benefits of various fighters today, Mr. Lois and I receive no financial kick-backs or compensation for our opinions. (I?m not saying that Marley receives money directly for the articles he writes as I have no verifiable proof other than his expensive designer blazers and finicky taste in exotic forms of peanut butter)
Luckily, both Ricardo and I are employed and receive a paycheck from sources outside of boxing.
Little by little I?ve learned that most writers or columnists today both in and outside of boxing are actually getting kick-backs in one form or another which compromises their ethics and honesty when penning up their pieces. Ricardo receives his paycheck from the hogs he slaughters on a daily basis working as a pig farm butcher and I receive a paycheck from the change that drops within the sidewalk cracks. Seriously though, there?s no money in it for us.
This affords us to be perfectly honest and candid when penning most of our not so coherent pieces.
Don King has single-handedly fucked up one of the most exciting fights of 2008 in Juan Diaz vs. Michael Katsidis. It was a lightweight championship bout that had virtually every boxing fan excited in anticipation as it was sure to have involved plenty of blood, guts, and violence rivaling any horror movie.
On paper, some fights are projected to have some sort of rhythm in which both boxers have their effective moments coupled with dead spots in between their offensive flurries. The rhythm of Katsidis-Diaz was set to be based on the audible sounds of a car crash involving at least twelve to fifteen automobiles, a train, and possibly even a hot air balloon. Violence, brutality, and balls are the words that could have, would have, and should have described this lightweight championship battle.
Unfortunately for fight fans from Texas to Australia and across the globe, it seems as though this mouth-watering bout is now on the shelf and will now take place in the courtroom.
While Golden Boy Promotions has long been characterized as the new villainous promoter on the block, Don King just reminded boxing fans why he is still considered such an infamous character in boxing promotions even up until this day.
He played no part in even attempting to make this fight happen and instead
