SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Former amateur standout Jade Bornea will fight defending champion Fernando Martinez of Argentina for the International Boxing Federation super-flyweight crown on 24 June in Minneapolis.
Martinez is best known for putting an end to the long reign of Jerwin Ancajas, who he beat twice.
Bornea, now fighting under JC Mananquil’s SanMan Promotions, learned about his much-awaited title show on Wednesday while accompanying Marlon Tapales in his quest to win two world titles this weekend.
Excited and eager to prove that he is for real, Bornea swears conditioning is key in ending Martinez’s days as champion.
“I have been watching and studying his fight and when you fight with that style, make sure you are in tremendous condition,” Bornea, unbeaten in 18 fights with 13 knockouts, said.
Known for his non-stop punching, Martinez holds a 15-0 ledger with eight knockouts.
