CEBUANO world title hopeful Bert ?The Ninja? Batawang arrived in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico with a promise to continue the dominance of Filipino fighters over Mexican boxers.
Batawang will challenge Mexican Ulises Solis for the IBF light flyweight title on Dec. 15 (Dec. 16 RP time) at the Auditorio Benito Juarez in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Speaking in front of the widely partisan press that covered the press conference held at the Viejo Oeste Restaurant in Guadalajara, the experienced and determined Batawang spoke about the victory of the Filipinos during the World Cup of Boxing when the Philippines defeated Mexico, 5-1.
Batawang was originally part of the card but the cancellation of his fight left it with only six fights.
In the recent fights, Filipino fighters have been lording it over the Mexicans with the recent wins of Manny Pacquiao over Marco Antonio Barrera and Nonito Donaire?s win over Luis Maldonado, Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista?s mastery over Antonio Meza, AJ ?Bazooka? Banal?s domination over Esau Gaona and Jovanny Soto all making waves in Mexico.
?Although we are all tired from our trip from the Philippines, Bert is all psyched up and he is very determined. I give it all to this boy who shows no sign of retreat. Even if he is tired, the fire in his eyes is still there,? his manager Sammy Gello-ani said.
According to Gello-ani, Batawang is also eyeing revenge against Solis.
?He is talking about revenge. Avenge the loss of Rodel Mayol against Solis. Mayol helped him in his preparation and he owes him. The only way he can repay Mayol is to beat Solis,? Gello-ani said.
Solis, on the other hand, announced that he has prepared well for this fight and he wants Batawang to be his second Filipino victim in a row.
Team Solis studied the fight of Batawang for a quite some time now following the series of cancellation of their fight, which was originally scheduled last Sept. 16.
Experience-wise, the 35-year-old Batawang has the edge with 17 years under his belt and a 50-6, 34 KOs to his credit while Solis, 26, parades a record of 25-1, 19 KOs.
