THE much-awaited fight between Cebuano Z ?The Dream? Gorres and Australia-based Vic Darchinyan for the IBF super flyweight eliminator bout will be held at the posh Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom.
ALA Boys manager Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu that they have already booked the fight at the Waterfront on Feb. 2 next year.
?The final date is on Feb. 2 next year and it will be at the Waterfront. No network has been finalized yet but we are currently negotiating for a network to cover the event,? said the youthful Aldeguer in a text message.
The winner of the fight will be the mandatory challenger of Dimitri Kirilov of Russia.
Most boxing pundits believed that this will be another tough test for Gorres who has been denied of the world title when he lost via controversial decision against Fernando Montiel last February.
However, the 25-year-old fighter from Mandaue City has already learned his lessons. Working hard at the gym and sparring against strong fighters has been his staple since the fight was announced.
In earlier interviews, Gorres said that he has everything to beat Darchinyan, who depends mostly on his power punches.
And once inside the ring, Darchinyan?s problem will be how to catch and counter the speed and accuracy of the Cebuano fighter.
The Armenia-born Darchinyan, on the other hand, is looking for a knockout win and gauged his readiness against the sleek fighting Filipino fighter when he scored a TKO win over Federico Catubay back in September.
But for the ALA Gym, Catubay has pushed Darchinyan to the limit while Gorres has dramatically improved over the months judging from his eight-round TKO victory over former world champion Eric Ortiz in August.
Gorres, ranked No. 6 by the IBF, is currently holding a 27-2 -1, 15 KOs record, while Darchinyan parades a 29-1; 23 KOs card.
Expected to display his wares in the undercard is the youthful Cebuano sensation AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and probably another title defense for Milan Melindo.
