AMERICAN superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao made the biggest impact in boxing this year, according to a recent boxing survey by Yahoo Sports.
In the poll conducted by Kevin Iole, Mayweather, the WBC welterweight champion and likely Fighter of the Year, and Pacquiao, last year?s best fighter, were rated 1-2 in the pound-for-pound contest.
The 30-year-old Mayweather, who holds an immaculate 39-0 record, emerged the runaway winner with 18 of 20 first-place votes for 198 points, mainly due to his devastating 10th-round stoppage of Britain?s erstwhile unbeaten Ricky Hatton on Dec. 8.
Pacquiao, who turns 29 today, repeated his conquest of Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct. 6 to pool 171 points and one first-place vote.
The pride of Gen. Santos City is slated to meet Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez for the WBC super featherweight title on Mar.
