The lure of a world title fight in Russia will be enough to spur Vic Darchinyan to a knockout victory over Filipino favourite Cebuano Z Gorres when they meet in an IBF super-flyweight eliminator at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom on February 2.
That?s the opinion of Darchinyan?s agent Angelo Hyder who says Darchinyan?s dream has always been to win a world title fight in Moscow.
“Vic is originally from Armenia but his wife is Russian and he speaks Russian,?? Hyder said.
“Getting the chance to beat Dmitri Kirilov for the world title in Russia will be just what Vic needs to stop Gorres.
“Vic is punching harder than ever in the gym and even though I am not thrilled he is fighting Gorres in Gorres? backyard you will see Vic back at his best, knocking people out again.??
Gorres came up short in a very close decision when he fought WBO super-flyweight champion Fernando Montiel last February.
But Gorres says he has the boxing skills to outfight Darchinyan and beat him in the same manner as countryman Nonito Donaire who took the Australia?s IBF and IBO flyweight titles with a one-punch, left hook KO in July.
While Darchinyan laboured to a 12th-round stoppage of Filipino Federico Catubay in Sydney in his last fight, Gorres is coming off an impressive eighth-round TKO over former world champion Eric Ortiz in August.
Gorres is 27-2 -1, 15 KOs. Darchinyan is 29-1; 23 KOs.
