Canelo Alvarez has been backed to make a huge switch to heavyweight and win a world title in another division.
The Mexican star was recently given permission by the WBC to make a 32lb increase to cruiserweight and challenge the organisation’s champion Ilunga Makabu.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn also suggested that he could make a switch to heavyweight to compete with the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Alvarez’s stablemate Frank Sanchez believes that his sparring partner has “heavyweight power” and has learned a great deal from him in his own rise.
Sanchez told DAZN : “Look, I’ve sparred with Canelo. I can tell you with the utmost confidence that Canelo has heavyweight power. He can handle cruiserweight, and in my opinion, he could be a heavyweight champion if he put his mind to it.

Sanchez works with the pound-for-pound king as part of a talented stable under trainer of the year Eddy Reynoso who also teaches the likes of Ryan Garcia and Andy Ruiz.
His own rise continued when he secured a comfortable unanimous decision victory over Christian Hammer on the undercard of Charles Martin’s defeat to Luis Ortiz.
Alvarez recently conquered the 168lbs division when he became undisputed champion with a late stoppage victory over Caleb Plant.
During his rise to the summit of the division he conquered the likes of British pair Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith to become the first man in history to achieve the feat.

The Mexican star was later offered a variety of challenges including tilts at light-heavyweight with Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
Alvarez’s trainer Reynoso then plotted his rise to the cruiserweight division in a bid to conquer his fifth weight class.
Despite being keen to take on the sport’s most formidable challenges, Alvarez previously cast doubts on any switch to heavyweight explaining how his “body” would likely let him down.
“I think a year ago I said no to a switch to cruiserweight… and here we are,” said Alvarez.
