ROACH COOL ON OSCAR/PACMAN TALK

Freddie Roach believes there’s no way Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao will meet.

Talk of a shock showdown between the pair has been fuelled by the Pacman’s promoter Bob Arum, who says the Golden Boy fancies the fight.

He told The Manila Bulletin: “We’ll see, we’ll see. I was told that Oscar wants to fight Manny in his last fight. That’s what I have been told by Richard Schaefer (Golden Boy CEO).

Arum did admit that any meeting between the pair could be “a couple of fights down the road”, but added: “Henry Armstrong was a lightweight who fought at welterweight and even middleweight.”

Acclaimed trainer Roach though can’t believe it will ever happen.

He prepared Pacquiao for his recent win over Marco Antonio Barrera at super-featherweight (130lbs), and was in De La Hoya’s corner for the showdown with Floyd Mayweather at light-middle (154lbs).

Not surprisingly, he believes that weight gap is too big to bridge.

Roach said: “At what weight are they going to fight?.”

When told the fight could be at welterweight (147) he added: “Manny’s going to look like a balloon ball. That ain’t going to happen.

“What if they meet at 140 lbs (superlightweight)? Oscar can’t make 140.”
