Vasiliy Lomachenko bounced back from his October loss to Teofimo Lopez by defeating Masayoshi Nakatani via ninth-round technical knockout on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Nakatani had never been finished prior to Saturday’s loss.
Lomachenko, 33, opted to stay in the 135-pound division to fight Nakatani after losing his three lightweight belts to Lopez. The former three-division champion — previously considered by many the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world — could potentially be eyeing a rematch with the younger López, who had trouble disposing of Nakatani in their 2019 fight that went the distance.
With the victory, Lomachenko improves his career record to 15-2.
