World heavyweight champ Tyson Fury is back in the headlines after visiting a Las Vegas car dealership days after a positive Covid-19 test forced his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder to be postponed
Less than a week after a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder was postponed following his positive Covid-19 test, Tyson Fury was pictured at a luxury car rental shop in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
‘The Gypsy King’ was scheduled to face Wilder for a third time at the T-Mobile Arena on July 24, but the conclusive encounter was moved following a spike of cases in Fury’s camp.
Theirs was on course to be arguably the biggest boxing event of the summer, with a new date of October 9 being touted as the rescheduled date.
And while Fury should have been self-isolating to minimise the spread of Covid, Royalty Exotic Cars in Las Vegas posted a picture of the WBC champion after he stopped by:
The up-market rental shop was clearly pleased to have the Briton in attendance as the caption read: “Iconic. Thanks for stopping by champ @gypsyking101.”
Fury’s ill-advised outing is all the more controversial following recent comments made by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, revealing the heavyweight star turned down his second vaccine jab.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Arum explained Fury opted against his second dose of the vaccine out of fear the side effects could affect his preparations for July 24: “He got vaccinated in Miami.
“He got the first shot. And then he said he didn’t wanna get the second shot because he didn’t wanna get sick [from the vaccination] so close to the fight. So, he got COVID instead.”
Arum added: “I knew he had one shot, and I was hoping it was Johnson & Johnson. But it wasn’t. It was Moderna.”
The Johnson & Johnson jab has proved popular in the United States due to it only requiring a single dose, while those receiving the Moderna vaccination need two.
Fury (30-0-1) has been out of action since he finished ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in the seventh round of their February 2020 rematch.
The pair fought to a controversial draw when they first clashed in December 2018, when many felt Fury still deserved the win despite a last-round knockdown from Wilder.
The Englishman was on course for an all-British unification bout against Anthony Joshua, but those plans were halted in May after an arbitration court ruled Wilder deserved a trilogy fight.
As well as venturing to Royalty Exotic Cars on Wednesday, Fury posted a message of thanks via his social media accounts after he was voted 2021 Best Boxer Of The Year at the ESPYS.
The 32-year-old sounded slightly gruff as he said: “Hey there, this is Tyson Fury, AKA ‘The Gypsy King’.
“I’d just like to thank everyone who voted for me for this years ESPYS award. Thank you to everyone at ESPN, thank you to everybody in sports who voted for me to be the best boxer of the year.
“[A] real, real, real honour. Thank you very much. All the best, god bless.”
