Mike Tyson believes Floyd Mayweather should keep on fighting and pursue a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
The 44-year-old Mayweather, who retired four years ago, boxed an eight-round exhibition bout against popular YouTuber Logan Paul in Miami on Sunday night. Mayweather, a natural welterweight, gave up almost 35-pounds.
“I think Floyd should keep on trying. I don’t think he should fight a cruiserweight,” Tyson said to FightHype.
“I think he should continue fighting guys his own weight. What the fuck is he doing?
“Fight Pacquiao again and keep in shape. He should have had Paul lose a lot of weight. It was harder than Floyd anticipated, I believe.”
Mayweather outpointed Filipino superstar Pacquiao in a lacklustre affair in Las Vegas six years ago. He fought professionally just twice since, a 12-round decision over former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto the same year and a 10th round knockout of UFC star Conor McGregor two years later.
Meanwhile southpaw Pacquiao, 42, has continued to box on and will face WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr in Las Vegas on August 21.
Tyson questioned the logic of Mayweather boxing bigger men.
“Was he [Mayweather] boxing a cruiserweight?” Tyson asked. “How did he train for this?
“I believe when he [Logan] was hitting him, he was hurting him a little bit because he’s not a 160-pound guy.
“I think that’s a heavyweight. 190 pounds to me is a heavyweight. I think he can learn from this one and fight guys more in his category as far as weight is concerned.
“I think he’d make more money if he fought Pacquiao again. I’m trying to get Logan Paul to fight Badou Jack. I want to see what he says about that fight.”
Not everyone wants to see Mayweather back in the ring. Former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis wants to see him hang up the gloves permanently.
“Dear Floyd Mayweather, please never fight again,” Prograis wrote on Twitter.
“You mastered the sport of boxing against elite fighters for over 20 years. You’re one of the greatest fighters to lace up a pair of gloves. Now it’s time to walk away into the sunset and never look back.”
Mayweather himself says he is not contemplating a return to competitive boxing.
“And I’m not coming back to the sport of boxing, absolutely not,” he said after the Logan exhibition.
“I did what I had to do, I made my mark on the sport. As far as me doing another exhibition, probably not.
“I got all my faculties, made a tonne of money. Hey, money ain’t everything. Well, I know we got to eat food every day to survive so we can live longer, and that takes money.”
He added that he could have stopped Paul if he chose to.
“I could have pressed real, real hard and thrown some crazy combinations,” Mayweather said. “His goal was to survive and that was a win for him.”
