After a tough round of negotiation, Garry Shaw Promotions received the rights to promote the bout on March 1 underneath the third installment of the Israel ?Magnifico? Vazquez and Rafael Marquez in the US.
?We accepted the fight and in principle we agree to it because the conditions are okay, unless there are any changes in the contracts, the fight is on and we accepted it,? ALA Boys mentor Antonio Lopez Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
The agreement came a day before the deadline set by the IBF championship committee, which will end today.
Shaw, the promoter of Darchinyan, has wiped out the hopes of both fighters to hold the match in either?s home country.
?That is something good because, honestly we don?t want to fight in Australia and Darchinyan too doesn?t want to come to the Philippines. The terms and conditions that we received are okay and Golden Boy Promotions has approved it. We will go for it. Only the venue is not finalized,? Aldeguer said.
This fight will determine who will challenge Dimitri Kirilov for the super flyweight belt.
Darchinyan?s camp announced lately that the Armenian-born fighter is going to knockout Gorres by trying to expose the Cebuano?s ?weak chin.?
?This is a good opportunity for Gorres to fight under a big card. The main event will surely draw attention because of their fierce two previous ring battles,? Aldeguer said.
The 25-year old Gorres holds a 27-2-1,15 KOs record, while Darchinyan parades a 29-1, 23 KOs record.
