Vic Darchinyan has been guaranteed the support of Sydney’s large Armenian community in securing his world title eliminator with Z Gorres on home soil.
Elias Nasser, Darchinyan?s manager, has put together a powerful team of businessmen to make sure the IBF super-flyweight eliminator is held in Sydney.
Darchinyan?s agent Angelo Hyder told sportsnut.com.au that Darchinyan knew how tough the fight would be and did not want to risk a hometown decision in the Philipippines.
Nasser said his team would pay whatever it took to secure a hometown crowd for Darchinyan when he faces the talented Filipino southpaw.
Gorres? promoters Golden Boy and Darchinyan?s promoter Gary Shaw have until November 8 to reach agreement on the fight or it will go to purse bids.
“Vic knows that Gorres is going to be one of the best boxers he has met,” Hyder said.
“He can box and he can punch. He has had problems with heavy punchers in the past and that is good news for Vic.
“Elias Nasser is willing to pay whatever is necessary to have Vic fighting Gorres in Sydney.??
Hyder said Darchinyan wouid be even more dominant as a super-flyweight than he was at 112 pounds where he ruled the division for three years and scored seven wins inside the distance in world title fights.
“Gorres is a good fighter but Vic is back in a big way,” Hyder said.
“Vic has a massive punch and there?s no way Vic Darchinyan will come off second best.??
