Undefeated American puncher Errol Spence refuses to say how his 21 August welterweight war with Manny Pacquiao is going to play out in the end.
But one thing is for sure, Spence swears.
“It’s going to be exciting, though,” Spence told ES News from his Texas training camp a few days ago.
Asked if the fight for his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation and Pacquiao’s soon-to-be reinstalled World Boxing Association will go the full route of 12 rounds, Spence was non-committal.
“I don’t know we’ll see. Whatever comes. Knockout or decision, either way,” he said.
Still, Spence admits “Pacquiao is not done,” stressing that the 42-year-old Filipino eight-division champion remains a livewire opponent despite his age.
Last time Pacquiao was in the ring — almost two years ago — he beat Keith Thurman, a performance Spence said, was a great showing.
One thing going against Pacquiao is his inactivity, a factor that oddsmakers considered for being pegged as a +350 underdog ($100 wins $350).
In contrast, Spence, younger by more than ten years, is a -450 favorite ($450 wins $100).
Pacquiao, who will be fighting for the 30th time on American shores since making his head-turning debut in June 2001, has been a betting favorite for most of his career.
The only time he was the underdog came when he fought Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003, Oscar De La Hoya in 2008 and Floyd Mayweather in 2015.
Meanwhile, tickets for the clash that takes place at the 20,000-capacity T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas have gone on sale.
Prices range from $105 to as much as $2,505.
TGB Promotions chief Tom Brown is upbeat that fight fans will gobble them up given the magnitude of the event.
