Manny Pacquiao could return to action for the first time in nearly two years, and take on someone 20 years his junior in Ryan Garcia.
The last time Pacquiao appeared in the ring he shocked Keith Thurman to win the WBA welterweight title, and hand the previously undefeated American his first loss.
The 42-year-old hasn’t been back in the ring since, although he has been rumoured to be involved in some big fights with Terence Crawford, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor amongst those mentioned.
No fight has been scheduled for the seven weight world champion but now he could be about to fight someone 20 years younger than him.
According to the Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, preliminary talks have begun with him and Ryan Garcia despite the fact they fight at different weights.
Garcia is 21-0 in his career and has created a huge following during his relatively short boxing career up to date, making his debut in June 2016, by which time ‘Pac-Man’ had fought 66 times in professional fights.
The Californian really impressed last time out, when he fought Luke Campbell in January, coming from off the canvas for the first time in his career to beat the Olympic champion.

If Garcia is going up in weight to face Pacquiao then it would open questions to his interim title in a division currently being topped by Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney, whilst Vasyl Lomachenko remains in the background too.

On Saturday night the 42-year-old had caused a stir over the possibility of following his former rival Mayweather by facing McGregor in a boxing ring.
The Filipino Senator tweeted the Irishman saying “Let’s make 2021 the best year ever for fight fans,” leaving many to believe their meeting was inevitable, but the Notorious’ loss to Dustin Poirier seemed to end the possibility of that fight.
