LAS VEGAS — The World Boxing Council (WBC) has appointed Philippines? Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain as the fight supervisor for the mammoth showdown between Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao and Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera.
?Yes, I will supervise. It will be an honor,? Buhain said in an interview Friday.
Buhain, along with the Nevada State Athletic Commission?s Keith Kizer, had also supervised Friday?s official weigh-in at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, where the two protagonists made the 130-lb weight limit in their first try at the scales.
?This is another source of pride for the Filipino people,? said Rolly Hiso, a Chicago-based Filipino who travelled to Las Vegas to watch the fight. ?Rarely do you see a Filipino being given by a major sanctioning body a major role in a huge fight. Buhain is a source of pride for every Filipino in the Philippines and abroad.?
Meanwhile, Vice President Noli De Castro will lead a sprinkling of government officials and congressmen who will cheer for Pacquiao here at the 12,000-capacity Mandalay Bay Events Center.
