LAS VEGAS ? Freddie Roach expressed willingness to train Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines in one of their future fights but made it clear that it would be advisable for them to head back to Los Angeles a month before the scheduled match to adjust to the time zone.
“We had a great training camp there (in Cebu) but I guess it would be better if we get back here from the Philippines with more time,” said Roach after presiding over Pacquiao?s lopsided 12-round unanimous decision win over Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico at the Mandalay Bay.
Roach said the change in time zones may have affected Pacquiao?s performance since they only had exactly two weeks to get use to the time difference after spending five weeks in Cebu.
“I can still go there and train with him there but we need enough time,” said Roach, noting that, in the first few days in the US after arriving from Cebu, Pacquiao told him that he woke up at 3 a.m.
It was the first time that Pacquiao and Roach trained together away from the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
Roach said he prefers the Wild Card because of the quality of sparring that is readily available there although they even imported two sparring partners in Cebu.
