Oh how I miss the 80?s. Then all of a sudden Top Rank brings us back-to-back weekends that should feature a commercial with Ray Sr and Ray Jr on the speed bag and a can of 7-Up! I could not help but wonder how Pound-For-Pound King Manny Pacquiao, (44-3-2, 35 KO?s) would match up against some of my favorites from the 80?s. All fights at max weight of 130 pounds. Here?s a look!
Bobby Chacon. ?School Boy? had balls of steel. Took part in some of the best shootouts on Network TV. Fight with Pac-Man would be another 80?s classic! Pacman has too much speed and angles. Chacon would let you hit him with the kitchen sink and Pacman would. Throw in the stove too. Pacman by late round TKO. WINNER: PACQUAIO.
Rafael Bazooka Limon. ?Bazooka? was made for network TV, so was this match-up. Pacman stays in his chest and gobbles him up like those little blue and white flashing ghosts. Manny blasts out Bazooka inside 7. WINNER: PACQUAIO.
Hector Macho Camacho. At 130 Macho Man was lighting fast with blinding hand speed. Pacman?s pressure and speed would eventually cut off the ring and earn a 12 round decision. WINNER: PACQUAIO.
Salvador Sanchez. The late great Sanchez could box and crack. Sorry Manny, Sanchez by 15 round decision. WINNER: SANCHEZ.
Wilfredo Gomez. This would be an absolute war! Toe to toe classic fight. This one would have it all, boxing, banging, blood, sweat and knockdowns. I will go for Bazooka Gomez by majority decision. WINNER: GOMEZ.
Alexis Arguello. The true Pound-For-Pound Picasso of the 80?s little big men. Arguello was a master boxer who could thread the needle with arguably the most explosive power ever seen in the lower weight classes. If this fight was fought at 126 or 130, I pick Arguello by 14th round stoppage. WINNER: ARGUELLO.
Danny Lopez. ?Little Red? was a TV favorite. Blood and Guts could be the title for this one. Pacman paints the canvas with Red. Pacman by stoppage. WINNER: PACQUAIO.
J.C Chavez. Chavez was as tough as nails at 135, however at 130 he was still profecting his craft. Call me crazy, I will take the Pacman by tough hard fought decision. WINNER: PACQUAIO.
Azumah Nelson. High stakes poker game here. A matchup for the pureists. Nelson was a master boxer at 126. I might be rooting for the exciting Pacman, but I would have to score this one a controversial draw. In an even better brawl, at the post fight press conference, DK and Arum go on a verbal assult with accusations of judge tampering. WINNER: NONE, A DRAW.
Jeff Fenech. This fight would be the Tyson-Lewis of PPV for the overseas market. This one would fill up a soccer stadium. 15 rounds at 122 pounds. Fenech is a whirlwind and dictates an unbelievable pace. Fenech by close 15 round decision by no more than 2 points across the board. A rematch is made at 126 one year later and this time Pacman comes out on top of a 15 round decision. WINNER; FIRST FIGHT FENECH, REMATCH PACQUAIO.
